KDP Publishing Calendar 2026-2027: Publish-By Dates for Every Holiday
The date that matters for a seasonal book is not the holiday. It is the day you have to submit it to KDP, and before that, the day you have to start. This page counts back from every holiday between now and Halloween 2027, with KDP's own review times, printed proofs, and the new limit of two titles a week.
When should I publish a Christmas book on KDP?
Have it live on Amazon by about 10 Nov, so it is showing in search when Christmas shopping picks up in mid-November. For a paperback, that means submitting to KDP by Thu 5 Nov 2026 (review takes up to 72 hours), ordering a printed proof by 22 Oct, and starting the book by 18 Oct. A Christmas journal or planner needs about four weeks for KDP's low-content review, so it should go in by 13 Oct. Missed those? A paperback submitted by 9 Dec can still catch the last orders, a Kindle ebook by 16 Dec, and an Etsy or Gumroad PDF can sell right up to 24 Dec.
As of 19 Oct 2026, a single Christmas paperback is tight: Start today and keep the editing short, or skip the printed proof, to submit by Thu 5 Nov 2026.

A starting idea for this book
A Christmas picture book for ages 3 to 6 about a little fox who helps a snowed-in village get ready for Christmas, with simple words on every page, for an 8.5 x 8.5 paperback.
KDP figures from its help pages, checked 19 October 2026: review up to 72 hours (about three business days) for Amazon.com, up to 6 days for a first print book, 3 to 4 weeks for low-content books, up to 72 hours to appear in search, two new titles per format per week. Our planning estimates, not KDP's: the buying window (two to six weeks before the date), 14 days for a printed proof, and the days to edit. Deadlines are for Amazon.com; for Amazon.co.uk or other stores, where print can take up to 5 days, add two days.
Short on days? Inkfluence AI writes a full draft, or paints a coloring or picture book, in minutes, so the days go on checking and proofing instead of starting from a blank page.
Start the draft nowThe 2026-2027 KDP publishing calendar: submit-by dates
Every holiday from Halloween 2026 to Halloween 2027, worked out by the planner for one book on an account that has published before, with a printed proof for print formats. "Submit by" puts the book in Amazon search as the buying window opens; "last" is the latest that still catches the final buyers. Dates marked passed were already behind us on 19 Oct 2026.

How the dates are worked out
Each date is a count back from the holiday, one delay at a time, with KDP's figures and our estimates marked.
1. The buying window: when people start looking
Nobody buys a Christmas book on Christmas Day. Gift and seasonal buyers shop from roughly two to six weeks before the date, and a book has to be in search results before they start. This is our estimate, not a KDP figure: six weeks for Christmas (from 13 Nov), five for Halloween, four for Easter and back to school, three for the rest. Earlier does no harm: a book live in September has longer to collect reviews before December.
2. Search visibility: up to 72 hours
A live book is not yet a findable book. KDP's timelines page says a book can take "Up to 72 hours after your book is live" to appear in search results. So the planner wants the book live three days before the window opens.
3. KDP review: 72 hours, 6 days, or 3 to 4 weeks
When you press publish, the book goes to In Review, then Publishing, then Live. KDP's figures:
- Most books: "it takes 3 business days for your book (or update) to be live on Amazon", and for print, "Up to 72 hours for Amazon.com; up to 5 days for other marketplaces". The planner counts three business days back from the live date, so a weekend adds two days.
- A first print book: "for accounts without a previously published book, publishing may take up to 6 days." That moves a Christmas paperback from 5 Nov to 4 Nov.
- Low-content books: "low-content book reviews are taking longer than usual right now and may take 3-4 weeks to complete." The planner uses four weeks. This is the delay that catches most journal and planner sellers out.
- Nothing speeds it up: "reaching out to Customer Support will not expedite the review process".
Coloring books are not low-content. KDP lists coloring books and puzzle books as "Not Generally Low-Content" and says the category "does not typically include activity books", so they get the ordinary review time. Notebooks, planners, journals, log books and prompt journals are low-content. The full rules are in our guide to low-content books on KDP. If a book bounces back to Draft, the clock restarts; the usual reasons are in why KDP rejects books.
4. The weekly limit: two new titles per format
Since 21 September 2026, KDP accepts "Up to 2 new titles per book format each week", counted the first time you submit, and separately lets you create up to two titles per format a week, drafts included. The limits "reset every Sunday at 12:00 AM Coordinated Universal Time (UTC)". It was ten a week before. One book is not affected; a seasonal range is. The planner gives the last pair of books the submit-by week, and every earlier pair the week before that.
5. A printed proof: our allowance of two weeks
For a paperback, order a proof copy before you submit: margins, spine text and cover colour are easier to judge in your hands. KDP does not publish a print time for proofs. It says you will get an order link "Within 4 hours of submitting your proof request", that proofs "don't qualify for free or Prime shipping", that "we're not able to expedite the process to manufacture your order", and that you can order "up to 5 proof copies at a time". We allow about one to two weeks and the planner uses 14 days; the real estimate is shown at checkout. Untick the proof box and a Christmas paperback can start on 1 Nov instead of 18 Oct, at the risk of a printing problem going live.
6. Making and editing: a few days
With Inkfluence AI the draft is the quick part: a book, coloring book or picture book in minutes. The time goes on reading it through, the cover and the files. The planner allows four days for an ebook or paperback, three for a coloring book and two for a journal or printable.
Several books for one season: the two-a-week limit
The new limit turns a seasonal catalogue into a schedule. A seller planning six Christmas coloring books cannot submit them all in the last week; they need three weeks of slots, so the first pair has to go in by Sat 24 Oct 2026 and, with proofs, the work starts by 7 Oct. Here is how the start date moves with the number of Christmas paperbacks or coloring books:
| Christmas paperbacks | Weeks of slots | First pair submitted by | Start by |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1 | Thu 5 Nov 2026 | Mon 19 Oct 2026 |
| 2 | 1 | Thu 5 Nov 2026 | Mon 19 Oct 2026 |
| 4 | 2 | Sat 31 Oct 2026 | Wed 14 Oct 2026(passed) |
| 6 | 3 | Sat 24 Oct 2026 | Wed 7 Oct 2026(passed) |
| 8 | 4 | Sat 17 Oct 2026 | Wed 30 Sep 2026(passed) |
| 10 | 5 | Sat 10 Oct 2026 | Wed 23 Sep 2026(passed) |
| 20 | 10 | Sat 5 Sep 2026 | Wed 19 Aug 2026(passed) |
Four things about the limit that change the plan:
- Formats are separate. The limits "apply separately to each book format (eBook, paperback, and hardcover)". The ebook and paperback of the same book use different slots, so publishing both costs nothing extra.
- Drafts count when they are created, so do not set up ten placeholders in one week.
- Updates are free. "Updates to titles you've already submitted do not count against the weekly submission limit." Fixing a typo after the proof costs no slot.
- The week is UTC. Sunday 12:00 AM UTC is Saturday evening in the Americas.
What that means in a year: at most about eight new paperbacks a month, per format. For what each one earns per copy, use the book royalty calculator; for the 2026 royalty rules themselves, KDP royalties explained. If you are building a catalogue toward an income goal, work out how many books it takes and the earliest date this limit lets you get there. Once the books are live, the survey figures on what KDP authors actually earn in 2026 show what catalogues of different sizes make.
When people actually start: seasonal books made on Inkfluence AI
We counted the Halloween and Christmas books people made on Inkfluence AI this year, as a share of all books made each month. The pattern is the same for both: most seasonal books are started inside the buying window, which for print is late.
Seasonal books per 10,000 books made, by month, 2026
| Per 10,000 books made | Mar | Apr | May | Jun | Jul | Aug | Sep | Oct 1-18 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Halloween | 14 | 10 | 5 | 12 | 8 | 23 | 36 | 76 |
| Christmas | 51 | 40 | 32 | 37 | 46 | 48 | 53 | 90 |
- Halloween books tripled from August to October: 23 per 10,000 books made in August, 36 in September and 76 in the first 18 days of October. Weekly, 35 Halloween books were started in the week beginning 14 September and 42 in the week beginning 12 October. At least 121 of the year's 279 Halloween books (43%) were started from the week of 21 September onwards, after our submit-by date for a Halloween paperback (18 Sep). Not every one was meant for print, but every printed one among them missed the start of the window.
- Christmas books run all year and then jump: between 32 and 53 per 10,000 every month from March to September, then 90 in the first 18 days of October. The busiest week so far was the week beginning 12 October, with 60 Christmas books started. The Christmas paperback start-by date in the planner is 18 Oct, so the peak lands right on the deadline.
- Christmas means fiction: 62% of the 608 Christmas books (by 494 authors) were novels or stories. Halloween is closer to even: 54% fiction among 279 books by 211 authors, with picture books, guides, cookbooks and journals making up the rest.
Late books do not fail by default, but the start date is earlier than it feels: a Christmas paperback started in the third week of October has no slack for a proof, a rejection or a second book.
Method. Counted on 19 October 2026 from books made on Inkfluence AI, our three test accounts excluded; aggregates only, no individual books or authors. A book counts as Halloween if its title or brief contains "Halloween" or "trick or treat", and as Christmas if it contains "Christmas", "Xmas", "Santa" or "nativity"; a few unrelated titles (a character called Santa, say) will be in the Christmas count. Monthly figures are per 10,000 books made in the same month; October covers 1 to 18 October. Weeks start on Monday. Fiction share is from the book's type. Free to cite with a link to this page.
Do not be in next October's peak. Start the book now and spend the spare weeks on the proof, the cover and the listing, not on catching up.
Start a seasonal bookHoliday by holiday: what to publish and when
Dates are from the planner for one book. For which themes to choose inside each season, see our coloring book niches for 2026; this section is about timing.
Halloween (31 October)
Halloween buyers start in late September, so a paperback has to be submitted by about 18 Sep and started by the end of August. For 2026 that has passed; as of 19 Oct 2026, a Kindle ebook submitted by Thu 22 Oct 2026 or a printable listed by 30 Oct can still catch the last of it. For Halloween 2027, the paperback date is Mon 20 Sep 2027. Kids' coloring books, not-too-scary picture books and cosy mysteries all work; our Halloween coloring book generator and Halloween story generator have starting points.
Thanksgiving (Thursday 26 November 2026, US)
A short, US-only season: paperbacks by 28 Oct. Gratitude journals, the classic Thanksgiving book, need the four-week low-content review, so for 2026 they are already late.
Christmas (25 December)
The biggest season and the earliest deadlines. Paperback and coloring book: submit by Thu 5 Nov 2026, start by 18 Oct. Ebook: submit by 5 Nov for the whole window, 16 Dec at the latest. Journals and planners: 13 Oct. Most Christmas books made on Inkfluence AI are fiction (62%, see the data above), and children's books sell as gifts: a personalised Christmas book for kids or a family keepsake like a book for grandparents. For coloring, the Christmas coloring book generator makes the designs, and for a holiday romance, the romance writer drafts the novel.
New Year (1 January)
Goal planners, habit trackers and fresh-start journals. They are low-content, so the review is the long one: submit by Tue 10 Nov 2026, when most people are still thinking about Christmas. A guided workbook with real content inside (a fitness plan, a money reset) is not low-content and can go in by 3 Dec; our workbook generator and journal generator make both kinds, and how to sell workbooks covers pricing them.
Valentine's Day (14 February)
Couples journals and sweet romances. Paperback by Mon 18 Jan 2027, ebook by 18 Jan. A Valentine's journal has to be submitted by Thu 24 Dec 2026: in practice, finished before the Christmas break.
Mothering Sunday (UK, 7 March 2027) and Mother's Day (US, 9 May 2027)
Two different dates. UK Mothering Sunday is three weeks before Easter, 7 March in 2027: paperback by Mon 8 Feb 2027, plus two days for Amazon.co.uk. US Mother's Day is the second Sunday in May: paperback by Mon 12 Apr 2027, fill-in journals by Thu 18 Mar 2027.
Easter (28 March 2027)
Children's, coloring and activity books for Easter baskets: paperback by Mon 22 Feb 2027. The AI coloring book generator does kids' line art, detailed adult designs and bold and easy pages for young children and seniors.
Father's Day (20 June 2027, US and UK)
The same Sunday in both countries this year. Paperback by Mon 24 May 2027. "Dad, tell me your story" fill-in books are low-content; a funny picture book from the kids is not, and the AI picture book maker handles those.
Back to school (US, mid-August 2027)
A window, not a date: US schools go back from late July to early September. Counting from mid-August, paperbacks go in by Tue 13 Jul 2027 and student planners (low-content) by Fri 18 Jun 2027. Workbooks, first-day picture books and study guides are the usual books.
Pre-orders and scheduled release: getting in early
KDP has two tools for fixing a release date in advance, one for each kind of book, and neither works for journals.
Ebooks: pre-order
"You can create a pre-order up to one year in advance." The book page goes up early and collects orders; the final file is due 72 hours before release, and "If you don't upload your manuscript file on time, your pre-order will be canceled." For a Christmas ebook, a pre-order set up in October puts the page in front of buyers for the whole window.
Paperbacks: scheduled release
"KDP does not offer pre-orders for print books", but a new print book can have a release date "up to 5 to 90 days in advance". From five days before release you cannot change the file, the date or order author copies. Use it to submit early, after the proof, and pick a release day that suits you.
Low-content books are the exception: "we don't currently offer Release Date for low-content books." They go live when the review finishes, which is one more reason to submit them early. For how the whole KDP process runs from upload to live, see self-publishing on Amazon KDP and, for print, paperback publishing on KDP.
Missed the print deadline? The two late options
A missed paperback date does not have to mean a missed season. Two formats have no proof copy and no printing, and one has no review at all.
A Kindle ebook
An ebook skips the proof and the print queue and reaches the reader seconds after purchase. Review is the same 72 hours, then up to 72 hours for search, so the latest useful Christmas submission is about Wed 16 Dec 2026. It suits novels, stories and non-fiction. It does not suit coloring books or fill-in journals, which need paper. Our guide to publishing AI-assisted books on KDP covers the upload, and KDP's AI questions are explained in the KDP AI disclosure policy.
An Etsy or Gumroad PDF
A printable has no KDP review, no slot limit and no shipping. Once the listing is active, buyers download it the moment they pay and print it at home, which is why printables sell right up to the day: a Christmas activity pack can be listed until Thu 24 Dec 2026. Coloring pages, activity packs, planners and journals all work as PDFs. Inkfluence AI exports a PDF on every plan, and on paid plans sends the book to Etsy or Gumroad for you; check the listing and switch it on. If you are not sure which digital format to sell, our list of digital product ideas compares them.
Often the answer is both: the paperback for buyers who plan ahead, the ebook or printable for everyone else.
How to plan a seasonal book on KDP, step by step
- Find the start of the buying window. Take the holiday and go back two to six weeks: six for Christmas, three for Valentine's Day. That is the date the book must be in search.
- Allow time to appear in search. Up to 72 hours after a book goes live, so be live three days earlier.
- Allow for KDP review. Up to 72 hours (about three business days) on Amazon.com, up to 6 days for your first print book, 3 to 4 weeks for a journal, notebook or planner. Now you have your submit-by date.
- Spread several books over the weekly limit. Two new titles per format a week, reset Sunday 12:00 AM UTC. Divide the number of books by two, round up, and that is how many weeks before the submit-by date the first pair goes in.
- Allow for a printed proof. About one to two weeks before the first submission, longer outside the US; check the estimate at checkout. Look at formatting, trim size and the cover and spine while you wait. If you only need one copy fast, see how to print one copy of a book.
- Allow time to make and edit. A draft takes minutes in Inkfluence AI; give yourself a few days to edit it, write the book description, make the cover and, if you use them, the A+ Content images. That date is your start-by date.
- Set your late option. Decide now what you will do if a date slips: the ebook, the printable, or both. Put the last dates in your calendar too.
- Launch. When it goes live, check the page, tell your readers, and work through the book launch checklist.
Ready for step six? Describe the book in a sentence and Inkfluence AI drafts it, then export a PDF, or on paid plans a KDP package, EPUB or DOCX.
Draft my seasonal bookSeven seasonal KDP timing mistakes
- Counting back from the holiday, not the buying window. A book that goes live on 20 December is live for the last few days of a six-week season.
- Treating a journal like a novel. Low-content review may take 3 to 4 weeks. A Christmas planner submitted on the paperback date (5 Nov) could still be in review in December.
- Saving the whole range for the last week. Two new titles per format a week since 21 September 2026. Ten books need five weeks.
- Forgetting your first book takes longer. Up to 6 days for print on a new account.
- Skipping the proof to save time, then fixing a cover after launch. An update goes back through review: that is another three days off the window.
- Planning a print pre-order. KDP has none for paperbacks; use a scheduled release, which low-content books cannot have.
- Giving up when print has passed. The ebook and the printable sell almost to the day. Publish them and plan the paperback for next year.

KDP publishing dates: frequently asked questions
When should I publish a Christmas book on KDP?
Have it live on Amazon by about 10 Nov so it shows in search when Christmas shopping picks up in mid-November. For a paperback that means submitting to KDP by Thu 5 Nov 2026, ordering a printed proof by 22 Oct and starting the book by 18 Oct. A journal or planner needs longer because KDP says low-content reviews may take 3 to 4 weeks: submit by 13 Oct. After the main window, a paperback submitted by 9 Dec can still catch the last orders, a Kindle ebook by 16 Dec, and an Etsy or Gumroad PDF can be listed until 24 Dec.
What is the best time to publish a book on KDP?
For a seasonal book, early enough to be in search before buyers start shopping, which we put at two to six weeks before the date. Count back from there: 72 hours for search, KDP review, a printed proof, and the weekly limit. For a book with no season, publish when it is ready; there is no official best day.
How long does KDP take to publish a book?
About three business days. For print KDP gives up to 72 hours for Amazon.com, up to 5 days for other marketplaces and up to 6 days for an account with no published book. Low-content books such as journals may take 3 to 4 weeks. Then allow up to 72 hours to appear in search. Support cannot speed up a review.
When should I publish a Halloween book on KDP?
For Halloween 2027, submit a paperback by Mon 20 Sep 2027 and start it by 2 Sep; a Kindle ebook by the same date for the main window, or by 22 Oct at the latest; an Etsy or Gumroad printable by 26 Sep. For Halloween 2026 (as of 19 Oct 2026) print has passed: a Kindle ebook submitted by Thu 22 Oct 2026 or a printable listed by 30 Oct can still catch the last buyers.
How many books can I publish on KDP per week?
Two new titles per format per week, and separately two titles created per format, drafts included. Updates do not count. Ebook, paperback and hardcover are counted separately, and the limits reset every Sunday at 12:00 AM UTC. It was ten a week until 21 September 2026. Six seasonal paperbacks need three weeks of slots.
Can I set up a pre-order for a paperback on KDP?
No. KDP has no pre-orders for print books, but a new paperback can have a release date 5 to 90 days ahead, with the file locked five days before. Low-content books cannot use a release date. Ebooks can go on pre-order up to a year ahead; the final file is due 72 hours before release or the pre-order is cancelled.
How long do KDP proof copies take to arrive?
KDP gives no fixed time. The order link arrives by email within 4 hours, the estimate is shown at checkout, manufacturing cannot be expedited, and proofs get no free or Prime shipping. You can order up to five at a time. We allow about one to two weeks; check the checkout estimate for your address.
Are coloring books low-content on KDP?
No. KDP lists coloring and puzzle books as "Not Generally Low-Content" and says the category does not typically include activity books, so they get the normal review time. Notebooks, planners, journals and log books are low-content: review may take 3 to 4 weeks, and they cannot have a release date or Expanded Distribution.
What if I miss the KDP deadline for Christmas?
Switch format rather than give up on the season. As of 19 Oct 2026, a Christmas paperback submitted by Wed 9 Dec 2026 can still catch the last delivery dates, a Kindle ebook submitted by Wed 16 Dec 2026 can be live and in search a few days before Christmas, and an Etsy or Gumroad PDF needs no review at all: once the listing is active, buyers download it the moment they pay, up to Thu 24 Dec 2026.
When should I publish a Valentine's Day or Mother's Day book?
Valentine's Day 2027: submit a paperback by Mon 18 Jan 2027 and a journal by Thu 24 Dec 2026, which means finishing it before the Christmas break. UK Mothering Sunday falls on 7 March 2027: paperback by Mon 8 Feb 2027. US Mother's Day falls on 9 May 2027: paperback by Mon 12 Apr 2027, journal by Thu 18 Mar 2027.
Is "KDP calendar" the same as a KDP publishing calendar?
Not usually. Most people searching "KDP calendar" want to make a calendar book and need sizes and templates. This page is a publishing calendar: when to start, proof and submit seasonal books.
When should I start Q4 books for KDP?
Q4 runs from October to December, and the last dates arrive early. As of 19 Oct 2026: Thanksgiving paperbacks should have been started by 10 Oct, Christmas paperbacks by 18 Oct, and Christmas journals by 27 Sep.
