A LitPal Alternative for Coloring Books, Picture Books and KDP

LitPal has no free plan. It starts with a 3-day trial that needs a card, then $29.99 a month for 60 credits. Here is what it does well, what a book costs on it, and when another tool, ours included, is the better buy.

By Sam May, founder of Inkfluence AI

A stack of printed square paperbacks titled Woodland Friends Coloring Book by Hattie Brooks beside one open copy whose fox page is partly coloured in crayon, with a crayon box and kraft mailer envelopes on a pale wooden worktable

We make Inkfluence AI, one of the alternatives on this page. Here is how we compared, and where LitPal is the better choice.

People who search for a LitPal alternative usually want one of two things: a way to start without a card, or a lower bill for the books they actually make. We answer both with LitPal's own numbers, read from its homepage, pricing toggle, credit estimator, FAQ, refund policy and fair-use page on 17 October 2026. LitPal is linked so you can check every figure.

We did not use LitPal hands-on for this page, so we do not grade it, and there are no scores or star ratings anywhere here. What we can show is our own output: real coloring pages, a real A+ Content pack and a real picture-book spread from our app. And we say plainly where LitPal wins, because for some sellers it does.

The short answer, by what you make

The right swap depends on your shelf. Here is where we would send a friend who sells on Amazon KDP, Etsy or at markets.

How we compared

LitPal's site is a single web app, so we opened it in a real browser on 17 October 2026 rather than reading a cached copy. We switched the pricing between monthly and annual, ran its credit estimator for every project type it offers, and read its FAQ, refund policy, fair-use policy and help page. Book Bolt was read from its own homepage and pricing page the same day.

  1. Their numbers, in their words. Every LitPal price, credit cost and limit below comes from those pages. Where its public pages do not mention something, such as EPUB export or audiobooks, we write "not listed" rather than guess, because a feature can exist behind a login.
  2. Our numbers, from our code. Inkfluence plan limits, picture costs and export formats were checked against our plan settings and export code, not our marketing copy. Where we are weaker, the page says so.
  3. Our output, unretouched. The coloring pages, the A+ Content images and the picture-book spread further down were made in Inkfluence AI from one prompt each. They are not mockups.

What we did not do: we did not make a book on LitPal, run the same brief through each tool, or score anyone. The fairest hands-on test of LitPal is its own trial; the fairest test of ours is the free plan. Both are linked below. If you want the wider field first, our children's book creator comparison covers more tools.

What LitPal is, and what it does well

LitPal describes itself as a place to create stories, coloring books, puzzles and non-fiction, and to write, illustrate and edit them with AI. Its FAQ lists the book types plainly: non-fiction books, illustrated children's stories, coloring books, color by number, word searches, word fit puzzles and Sudoku. Around those it has image generation and editing, cover tools, and LitPal Research for comparing niches and title ideas, which it labels "suggestions to evaluate, not sales predictions". That is a careful line, and a fair one.

The audience is clear from the shelf: low and medium content sellers on Amazon KDP, the people who publish coloring books, activity books and short kids' stories in series. For that seller, three things on LitPal's site stand out. The coloring price is low per page. The puzzle range is wide, with answer pages handled for you. And the non-fiction editor lets you set the chapter length before you generate, from about 500 words to about 5,000, which is a control we do not offer.

The homepage shows real exports rather than mockups: ten coloring pages from themes like Fall Memories and Coral Reefs, a children's story called Finn Learns about Finance with its cover, an American History manuscript in the editor, and a Sudoku sample. The coloring workflow is described in three steps: choose a theme and a style "from bold and simple to rich in detail", edit or regenerate any page, then organize the pages, add a cover and download a PDF.

Its policies read as written for the customer. You can cancel from the billing page with no reason asked, pause a monthly plan for one to three months instead of cancelling, and ask for a refund within 14 days of a first purchase, an unwanted renewal or a trial that turned into a paid plan, which it says it usually approves (used credits can reduce or rule that out). Credits for a generation that fails on its side go back to you. Those are good signs in a category where many tools sell non-refundable credits.

LitPal pricing and credit costs on 17 October 2026

Every LitPal plan includes every tool; the plans differ only in how many credits arrive each month. The annual toggle advertises "Save 33%". Prices are in US dollars as the site showed them. Check LitPal's current pricing.

PlanMonthlyCreditsPaid yearly
Basic$29.9960 a month$239.99 a year (720 credits)
Standard$49.99150 a month$399.99 a year (1,800 credits)
Premium$99.99400 a month$799.99 a year (4,800 credits)
Unlimited$199.99No per-item charges, fair-use limits$1,599.99 a year

What each kind of book uses

From LitPal's "What will your book use?" estimator. It covers the first generation only; the estimator itself says later edits, regeneration and extra images may use more credits.

ProjectCredit ruleSize rangeExample
Coloring book1 credit per 3 pages, rounded up1 to 50 pages30 pages = 10 credits
Color by number1 credit per page1 to 40 pages30 pages = 30 credits
Word search1 credit per 6 pages, rounded up2 to 100 pages, even30 pages = 5 credits
Sudoku book1 credit per 6 puzzle pages, rounded up10 to 200 pages50 pages = 9 credits
Children's story8 credits for the first 10 pages, then 1 a page10 to 30 pages20 pages = 18 credits
Non-fiction2 credits per chapter; an introduction adds 2Chapter length from about 500 to about 5,000 words12 chapters = 24 credits
AI cover (any book)5 creditsOptional+5 credits

Read the coloring line twice: 30 coloring pages for 10 credits means Basic's 60 credits a month covers about four 30-page coloring books with AI covers, and Standard's 150 covers ten. That is LitPal's strongest number. The weaker ones are text: a 12-chapter non-fiction book uses 24 credits, so Basic holds about two of them a month, and a 20-page children's story uses 18. Unlimited removes per-item charges within fair-use limits that its policy sets at 20 book starts an hour, 100 a day and 3 at once.

Is LitPal free? The trial, and what free means elsewhere

This is the question behind most searches for a LitPal alternative, so here is the plain answer from its refund policy: free trials last 3 days, need a payment method, and include 30 credits. When the trial ends, LitPal charges the plan and billing period you picked, monthly or the full year up front on an annual plan, unless you cancel in Billing first. It emails a reminder with the amount and date before the charge. Cancel during the trial and the trial ends at once and its unused credits are removed.

Thirty credits is a fair taste: enough for a 30-page coloring book with a cover (15 credits) and a 10-page children's story (8), or one 12-chapter non-fiction draft. Three days is short if you work on books in the evenings, and an annual plan chosen at checkout is charged as a full year when the trial converts, so pick monthly unless you are sure.

On Inkfluence AI the free plan has no clock and no card. You get 5 chapters to start and 5 more on the first of every month, the basic cover designer, and PDF export. Free PDFs carry a small "Made with Inkfluence AI" footer and a closing page. Text books are where free goes furthest: a short guide, a lead magnet or the first chapters of a story, written, edited and exported without paying.

Picture books and coloring books are different, on our side too. Every page is a painted picture, and pictures are the expensive part of any of these tools. On our free plan a picture, coloring or ABC book costs 2 chapter credits a page, which covers the words and the picture, with the cover and the character sheet included, and it will not start until you have enough credits to paint every page. A 20-page coloring book is 40 credits: a 25-pack and a 15-pack, $22.98, with no subscription. So the honest summary is: free to try for text, pay as you go for pictures, and a monthly plan once you make more than one picture book a month.

Same books, both tools: what a month costs

Pick the kind of book, its size and how many you make in a month. The calculator applies LitPal's estimator rules and plan sizes from 17 October 2026, and our own plan allowances and credit packs, and shows the cheapest monthly route on each. It counts the first generation only, on both sides; regenerating pages costs extra on both.

LitPal

$29.99

Inkfluence AI

$19.99

Premium plan

The rules the calculator uses
  • LitPal: coloring 1 credit per 3 pages rounded up (1 to 50 pages); children's story 8 credits for the first 10 pages, then 1 a page (10 to 30); non-fiction 2 credits a chapter; AI cover 5. It picks the smallest monthly plan whose credits cover the month (60, 150 or 400), else Unlimited at $199.99. Annual plans are cheaper per month if you commit for a year.
  • Inkfluence AI: each picture-book or coloring page is one picture; Creator includes 20 pictures and 35 chapters a month, Premium 50 pictures and unlimited chapters; extra pictures or chapters cost 1 credit each. With no plan, a picture or coloring page costs 2 credits. Picture and coloring book covers are included; an AI cover on a text book is covered by a paid plan or costs 1 credit. Credit packs are 15 for $9.99, 25 for $12.99 and 50 for $24.99, and the calculator buys the cheapest mix. Coloring books run 12 to 40 designs and picture books 10 to 16 pages; outside those ranges it says so.

The pattern is simple. LitPal's coloring rate, a third of a credit per page, is the cheapest coloring price we know of from a subscription tool, and at volume nothing on our side matches it. If your business is ten or more coloring books a month, the second row is your answer, and we would rather you knew that before switching.

Everywhere else the order flips. Text costs LitPal 2 credits a chapter, so guides and workbooks eat a Basic plan fast, while our Creator plan covers 35 chapters for $9.99 and Premium has no chapter cap at all. Picture books cost less on ours too, because a 14-page book fits inside Creator's 20 pictures.

Before you compare monthly bills, decide what the books earn. A coloring book priced at $9.99 on Amazon.com earns the higher royalty band; the royalty calculator and the print-cost maths on how to sell coloring books show how many copies pay for either plan.

A grid-paper notebook on a sofa arm with a handwritten heading reading Cost per book, not per month, and three lines reading 30-page coloring book, 14-page picture book and 12-chapter guide, beside a yellow pencil, a mug of tea and a printed floral coloring book
Compare the cost of the books you actually make, not the plan headline.

What Inkfluence AI actually makes: real coloring pages

These four pages come from one coloring book run in our app: a children's book about a dachshund called Toto, made from a single prompt. They are the exported pages, cropped square and otherwise untouched. The thing to look at is the dog. It is the same dog, with the same collar, on every page, because the book plans a recurring character first and paints every page from that character sheet.

A bold-outline coloring page of a dachshund in a collar sniffing along a garden path, large open regions and no shading
Garden walk
A bold-outline coloring page of the same dachshund stopped at a small puddle, ready to jump
Puddle jump
A bold-outline coloring page of the same dachshund sitting on a checked picnic blanket beside a basket, a sandwich and a drink, with a house, a tree and a sun behind
Picnic
A bold-outline coloring page of the same dachshund asleep on a pile of folded laundry
Laundry nap

Four of the pages from one run. The rest of the book, and the cover painted in the same run, are on the animal coloring book page.

How a coloring book is built

You describe the theme, who it is for and, if you like, a character. The plan sets around 20 distinct scenes by default (12 to 40 if you ask), and the line style follows your words: a kids' line by default, detailed line art when you say adult, and thick, simple bold-and-easy pages when you say so, which the bold and easy page shows in full. The cover is painted last, in the same style.

What the print file does for you

The PDF puts a blank page behind every design, so markers do not bleed through onto the next picture. The trim is square 8.5 x 8.5 inches by default, with US Letter for the 8.5 x 11 shelf. You can print your own words under each design, a title or a fact or an affirmation, or leave them as art only. The coloring book generator page walks through it.

After the pages: A+ Content and a picture book

KDP sellers live and die by the listing, so here are two more real outputs. The first is the header image from an A+ Content pack our app made for an adult coloring book called Cozy Scenes Adult Coloring. The pack is written from the book itself: a header with a headline, three square images with captions and a wide banner, sized for Amazon's modules. The headline it wrote for this one was "Step into a cozy scene".

A line-art coloring page of a bookshop reading corner, partly coloured with pencils: a green armchair, a blue knitted throw, a yellow floral cushion, a cat asleep on a stack of books and a patterned rug, with five coloured pencils at the edge of the page
Real A+ Content header from Inkfluence AI for Cozy Scenes Adult Coloring. The whole pack, with every module and its text, is on KDP A+ Content examples.

The second is a spread from a picture book made on our test account, Mia And The Shy Ghost, exported through the same PDF code customers use. Twelve pages, 235 words, for ages 3 to 6. Like the coloring book, it keeps the same characters from page to page: Mia, her black cat and the ghost look the same on every spread.

Two facing pages of the picture book Mia And The Shy Ghost: a girl in a witch hat opening a closet where a small ghost peeks out, and the girl, her black cat and the ghost together, with the story text above and below the art
Real export: Mia And The Shy Ghost, 12 pages at 8.5 x 8.5 inches. Story and ABC picture-book KDP interiors are made as bleed files, so the art runs to the edge of the printed page.

If you want to start from art you already have, including pages you made elsewhere, the own-pictures picture book option takes your finished page images and builds the print file with no credits used. To write and paint a new one, start at the picture book maker.

Where LitPal is the better choice

We would rather you stayed on LitPal than switched and regretted it. These are the cases, from what its site shows:

  • You sell puzzle and activity books. Word search, word fit, Sudoku and color by number are all on LitPal and none are on Inkfluence. A 50-page Sudoku book is 9 credits there. If puzzles are half your catalogue, switching means losing half your tools.
  • You publish coloring books in volume. Ten 30-page books a month cost $49.99 on LitPal Standard. On ours the same month is about $145. At that volume the per-page price is the business.
  • You want to set chapter length. LitPal's non-fiction tool lets you pick about 500 to about 5,000 words a chapter before you generate. On Inkfluence there is no word-count setting: length follows how many chapters you ask for, and our two sample prose books ran about 1,900 to 2,000 words a chapter.
  • You want niche research inside the tool. LitPal Research compares niches and suggests titles. We publish our demand data as free public pages, like the niche demand map and coloring book niches, but there is no research screen in the app.
  • You want single coloring pages as image files. LitPal's FAQ says individual coloring pages can be saved as images. Our coloring books export as a book: PDF, the KDP package, EPUB and Word, not one image file per page.
  • You want longer coloring books. LitPal's coloring tool goes to 50 pages; ours stops at 40 designs.

LitPal also offers one-to-three-month pauses on monthly plans, which suits seasonal sellers who make a Christmas and a Halloween range and rest in between. On Inkfluence you would cancel and resubscribe; your books stay in your account either way.

Where Inkfluence AI fits better

For a KDP seller whose shelf is story books, coloring books with a character, and guides, rather than puzzles in bulk, these are the differences that show up in a normal month.

A free plan, then a $9.99 plan

No card to start, and Creator at $9.99 covers one 20-page coloring or picture book plus a guide every month. LitPal's lowest plan is $29.99.

Kindle and Word files

EPUB and DOCX on paid plans or with any credit pack, plus a one-click KDP package with the interior, the wrap cover with its spine, the EPUB and a cover JPG.

The listing, not just the book

An Amazon listing kit with the description, seven keyword boxes and categories, and A+ Content written from your book.

Sell beyond Amazon

List a book on Etsy or Gumroad from the app on Creator and Premium, and every published coloring book gets a free page where readers color sample pages online.

Series that stay in character

Continue a picture, coloring or ABC book as a series: book two keeps the cast, the art style, the page size and the readers' age from book one.

Everything else a book can become

Novels, an audiobook of any text book, and translation into 59 languages, on Creator and Premium.

At a church-hall craft fair, a seller in a cardigan shows a mother and young daughter a picture book titled Pip and the Lantern Fox by Nora Ellis, with coloring books in a wire rack, picture books laid flat and a handwritten card reading 9.99 dollars each on a navy-covered table
Amazon is one shelf. Author copies at markets and printable editions on Etsy are two more, and the same book file serves all three.

Inkfluence AI's limits for this kind of seller

Checked against our own plan settings and code, not our marketing. If any of these is a deal-breaker, the tables above tell you where to go instead.

  • No puzzle or activity books. No word search, Sudoku, crossword, word fit, maze or color by number.
  • Pictures are metered. Creator includes 20 pictures a month and Premium 50; each extra picture is 1 credit. A 40-design coloring book on Creator needs 20 extra credits. That is what makes us dearer than LitPal for coloring in bulk.
  • Picture books are 10 to 16 pages. Our story picture books follow the 32-page printed format, so 14 pages is the default and 16 the most. ABC and counting books go to 26, coloring books to 40. LitPal's children's stories go to 30 pages.
  • Free plan pictures cost credits. On the free plan, picture, coloring and ABC books cost 2 credits a page and do not start until every page is paid for. There is no free picture book.
  • Coloring books export as books. PDF, KDP package, EPUB and Word; no A4, no hardcover file, and no single image per page.
  • The editor is in English. Books can be written in many languages, but the app's menus are English.
  • It is a first draft. Look at every page before you publish, and tell KDP the content is AI-generated when it asks. Our guide to KDP's AI disclosure explains the question.

Prices: free plan; Creator $9.99 a month ($89 a year); Premium $19.99 a month ($179 a year); credit packs of 15 for $9.99, 25 for $12.99 and 50 for $24.99, which never expire. Any credit pack also unlocks EPUB and Word export for good.

What coloring book makers on Inkfluence actually do

Our own numbers, from the first weeks of the coloring format. They are homed, with the counting method, on how to sell coloring books: 87 coloring books by 67 people between 29 August and 23 September 2026, with the team's own test books left out. LitPal publishes nothing comparable, so this describes our users only.

20 designs

the median book; 16 of 82 went to 24 or more, and the longest to 40.

69%

had a recurring character, like Toto above, rather than a loose set of scenes.

72%

were painted in the kids' line style; 20% adult detailed and 8% bold and easy.

41%

were about animals, the biggest theme by far, ahead of seasons and holidays.

Most of those books were one-offs: 52 of the 67 people made a single book. That is the reason our pricing leans on a monthly picture allowance rather than a bulk rate, and also why a seller who makes ten books a month is better served by LitPal's volume price. If animals are your theme too, the animal, Christmas and Halloween coloring pages show full real runs.

The other LitPal alternative: Book Bolt

One more tool serves the same KDP seller, read from its own site on 17 October 2026. We left out general design apps and chat assistants: they can help with one page, but none of them builds a coloring book or a picture book file on its own.

2. Best at: Amazon niche research plus puzzle, journal and coloring interiors in one subscription

Book Bolt

Book Bolt sells itself to Amazon KDP sellers as research, design and listing in one place. Its site describes niche and keyword research with Amazon search volume, a cover and interior designer called Book Bolt Studio, puzzle, crossword and Sudoku creators, an AI builder for story books, coloring books and journals, and a browser extension for looking at other listings. Everything exports sized to KDP print specs, according to its homepage.

Price, from its own page on 17 October 2026: Pro is $19.99 a month and Premium $29.99 a month, both billed yearly; monthly billing costs more and the page shows it per day. Pro includes 1,000 AI credits a month and Premium 4,000. Both start with a 3-day free trial.

When to pick it over LitPal: If puzzles and research are the reason you use LitPal, Book Bolt is the closer swap. It is a design and research tool first; the writing of a long book is not what its site leads with.

The wider children's field, including tools that only illustrate, is in the children's book creator comparison.

Moving from LitPal to Inkfluence AI

You do not have to move everything at once, and you do not have to leave. Plenty of sellers keep one tool for puzzles and another for story books. If you do move, the order that loses least is:

  1. Download what you made first. Export your PDFs and save your coloring pages as images while your LitPal plan is active. LitPal's FAQ says it assigns its rights in eligible output to you, subject to its terms; read them for your own books.
  2. Bring text books in as files. Import the PDF, DOCX or EPUB of a guide or story and Inkfluence splits it into chapters you can edit. Importing does not use chapters. From there you can add an EPUB, a print interior and a new cover.
  3. Bring finished pictures in as pages. The "I already have my pages" picture-book option takes up to 100 page images (PNG, JPG or WebP), lays one on each page and builds the print file, with no credits used. It is made for illustrated books; it does not add the blank backs a coloring book wants, so for coloring books a fresh run is usually the better route.
  4. Write the next book natively. New coloring and picture books get the character sheet, the matching cover, the A+ pack and the listing kit, and can continue as a series later.
  5. Cancel the old plan last. LitPal lets you cancel at the end of the period and keep access until then, or pause a monthly plan instead.

For the KDP side of the move, selling AI coloring books on KDP covers the rules for coloring books in particular, and how to sell children's books covers picture books.

How to choose, in four questions

  1. What share of your catalogue is puzzles? If it is most of it, stay with LitPal or look at Book Bolt. Neither switch to us makes sense.
  2. How many picture pages do you paint in a month? Under 50, our Premium covers it for $19.99. Over 150 or so, LitPal's coloring rate wins. In between, run the calculator.
  3. Do you need Kindle files? Picture books and guides sell as ebooks too. If you want an EPUB without a converter, that points to us.
  4. Where else do you sell? If Etsy printables or Gumroad matter, listing from the app saves a step every book.

Whatever you choose, pick the niche before the tool. A well-made book in a crowded theme sells less than a plain one in a gap; our coloring book walkthrough and the free KDP tools help with that part, on any platform.

How this page was made

Who: Sam May, who founded and runs Inkfluence AI. More about the company is on the about page.

How: LitPal's prices, credit costs, trial terms, refund terms, fair-use limits and listed features were read from litpal.ai in a real browser on 17 October 2026; Book Bolt from its own site the same day. Inkfluence AI figures come from our plan settings, our export code and our own platform data. The coloring pages, A+ Content and picture-book spread are real outputs from our app; the three photographs of printed books are illustrations made for this page. AI tools helped with research and drafting, and every price, limit and number was checked against its source before publishing.

Why: people searching for a LitPal alternative already land on our pages, and most of them want a straight answer about free plans and cost. Some of them are better off where they are, and we say so.

If LitPal's prices or features have changed, or we have something wrong, tell us through the contact page and we will correct it.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free version of LitPal?
No. On 17 October 2026 LitPal's site listed four paid plans and a 3-day free trial with 30 credits. Its refund policy says the trial needs a payment method and that the plan you picked is charged when the trial ends unless you cancel first. Inkfluence AI has a free plan with no card: 5 chapters to start and 5 more each month, with PDF export.
What is the best free alternative to LitPal?
For text books, Inkfluence AI: its free plan writes chapters and exports a PDF with no card and no trial clock. For picture and coloring books there is no fully free route anywhere on this page, because every picture costs the tool money to paint; on the Inkfluence free plan a picture book or coloring book costs 2 chapter credits a page from a credit pack, with the cover included. We make Inkfluence AI, so weigh that.
How much does LitPal cost?
From LitPal's pricing on 17 October 2026: Basic $29.99 a month for 60 credits, Standard $49.99 for 150, Premium $99.99 for 400 and Unlimited $199.99 with fair-use limits. Paid yearly they are $239.99, $399.99, $799.99 and $1,599.99. Every plan has every tool; the plans differ only in credits.
How many credits does a LitPal coloring book use?
One credit per three pages, rounded up, so a 30-page coloring book uses 10 credits and an AI cover adds 5. That is from its own credit estimator; it notes that later edits, regeneration and extra images may use more.
Is LitPal cheaper than Inkfluence AI?
For coloring books in volume, yes. Ten 30-page coloring books a month fit LitPal Standard at $49.99; on Inkfluence they need Premium plus about 250 extra credits, roughly $145. For one or two picture books, coloring books or text books a month, Inkfluence costs less, from $9.99. The calculator on this page works it out for your own numbers.
Can Inkfluence AI make puzzle books like LitPal?
No. Inkfluence does not make word searches, Sudoku, word fit puzzles or color by number pages. If puzzles are your main product, LitPal or Book Bolt is the better tool, and you can still write the story books and guides elsewhere.
Does LitPal export EPUB for Kindle?
Its FAQ lists a print-ready PDF for non-fiction, PDFs for illustrated stories and activity books, and single coloring pages saved as images. EPUB and Word files are not among the formats it lists. Inkfluence AI exports EPUB and Word on paid plans or with credits, and a KDP package with the interior PDF, a wrap cover with the spine, the EPUB and a cover JPG.
Can I move my LitPal books to Inkfluence AI?
Text books, yes: download the PDF from LitPal and import it, and Inkfluence splits it into chapters you can edit. Import does not use chapters. Finished pictures can come in too: the "I already have my pages" picture-book option takes up to 100 page images, uses no credits, and lays one picture on each page. Check LitPal’s terms for your rights in what you made there; its FAQ says it assigns its rights in eligible output to you.
