How to read this. Every row is a count of books started on one platform in one 30-day window, next to the same count for the 30 days before. That makes it a demand signal for AI-written books specifically, which is the market both of these tools sell into. It is not a measure of what sells on Amazon, and we are not going to imply that it is. What it does show honestly is direction: technical guides up 29%, exploratory non-fiction up 25%, children's fiction up 23%, biography and memoir up 20%, study guides up 19%. Lead magnets fell 28% and workout plans fell 11%.

The categories nobody calls trending are the big ones. Practical how-to guides (3,376) and general fiction (3,742) barely moved in percentage terms and are still four times the size of anything growing fast. A topic list sorted by growth rate will always point you at small categories getting slightly less small. That is the flaw in any "what is hot right now" tool, ours included if we built one: the fastest-growing niche and the most profitable niche are rarely the same niche.

Topic Research: The One Thing They Have That We Do Not

Worth reading slowly, because this is the whole argument of their comparison page and half of it is fair.

The sources named on the niche pages (Google, YouTube, Bing, the Kindle store) are not the sources named in their own blog post on the subject (Reddit, Google Trends, Quora). None of that makes the topics bad starting points. It does mean the scores are not a number you can act on, and nobody outside the company can check them.
