Mic isn't working?

Covered below if your browser blocked the microphone.

Start dictating

Place your cursor in the chapter where you want the text to appear, then click the `Voice` button (microphone icon) in the left sidebar. The first time, your browser asks for microphone permission. Allow it. Speak at a normal pace and your words appear in the chapter as you go.

A small recording bar appears at the top of the editor while you dictate. It shows a red dot, a timer, your live transcript, and a label telling you exactly where the text will land: "Inserting at cursor", "Appending to end", or "Replacing selection" (if you had text highlighted when you started).

How to stop

Three ways: click the Microphone icon in the toolbar again, click the `Stop` button in the recording bar, or press `Esc`. Any of them ends the recording cleanly and inserts the final text.

Clean formatting toggle

The recording bar has a `Clean formatting` checkbox. When it is on (default), the dictation is tidied: spoken punctuation cues like "comma" or "period" become real punctuation, and stray filler is trimmed. Switch to `Raw transcript` if you want every word exactly as spoken, including the cue words themselves.

Steps

Highlight the rough passage in your chapter, then click `AI Assist` in the toolbar. Because text is selected, it opens in rewrite mode and shows a "Rewriting: ..." strip at the top so you can see what will change.

Tap the `Fix grammar and flow` quick chip (no typing needed), or write your own instruction like "fix grammar and punctuation, keep my voice". Click `Rewrite`. Compare the two versions and click `Apply` to replace your selection.
