Importing

Three ways to import

Pick whichever is closest to where you are:

• New Book menu: click `New Book` in the top right, then `Import content`.
• Import Content tile: on the Home tab, click the `Import content` tile.
• Drag and drop: drop the PDF onto the AI prompt box on the Home tab.

What happens next

Inkfluence reads the PDF, detects chapter breaks (a mix of headings and AI), and opens the new book in the editor with the text pulled in. Larger PDFs can take a moment.

What happens next

Inkfluence reads the file, detects chapter breaks from your headings, and opens the new book in the editor. Headings, lists, bold/italic, and chapter structure carry over. Run `AI Assist` on anything that looks rough after the import.

Import several files into one book

A long manuscript split across files (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3) can come in as one book. Select several files in the file picker, or drop them together. The import window lists them in filename order, so "Part 10" comes after "Part 2". Use the arrows to change the order or the cross to remove a file, then click the import button (for example `Import 3 files as one book`). Each file's chapters are added after the previous file's, the book is named after the first file (rename it in Edit book details), and you review the full chapter list before it saves.

Several PDFs work the same way: select them together and they come in as one book, in the order shown. PDFs can't be mixed with Word, EPUB, TXT or Markdown files in the same import; bring each type in as its own set. A very large set (around 3,000 pages or more) needs splitting into two books.

Steps

Place your cursor in any chapter. Paste your text using `Cmd+V` (Mac) or `Ctrl+V` (Windows). Common formatting like headings and lists comes across. Use `AI Assist` to clean up anything odd afterwards.
