Lee-Old Wifey Lee

The moon was soft and low, like a sleepy lamp. You and I sit on a warm porch of fur and wood. Inside, a kettle sings. Outside, little feet patter. Lee-old Wifey Lee tiptoes in her slippers. She is five years old and small, but her eyes are bright like pennies. She is from the Karui Pack of Werewolves. Her fur is fluffy. Her voice is a whisper that can be brave.

Lee just learned she has magic. It came as a tiny glow in her palms one morning. She felt the glow when she laughed at a bubble and when she helped a caterpillar climb a leaf. Now Lee wears a tiny satchel of spells and is starting magic school today. You can feel the wiggle in her tummy. You can feel it too when you try something new.

At school, Lee meets her best friends. Repirdeon is a little dragon who sneezes sparks when he is excited. He is hotheaded; he stomps when he is eager and his tail makes thumps like drums. The calm friend is a demon-reaper named Leopold. He wears heavy armor with red cloth and black horns. A soft red glow floats around him. Leopold hums quiet songs and helps when things feel too loud. Sebastian is at school too. He was bitten by a wolf once and is part of the werewolf family. He shares snacks and stories.

The day a small problem comes. A magic bell for the class is missing. It is the bell that rings when it is time to share. Without the bell, everyone keeps talking over each other. Repirdeon feels hot and stomp-stomp-stomps. Leopold sits very still and looks worried in his gentle way. Lee feels small. You know that feeling-like when you can't find your favorite toy.

Lee tries to find the bell. First, she uses a little sparkle spell to make pebbles glow. The pebbles lead to a hole, but the hole is too deep. Then Repirdeon breathes a tiny puff of smoke and finds a ribbon by the trees. Leopold listens carefully; he can hear tiny tinkles under the floorboards. They try on their own, but the bell is still hidden.

Lee remembers something. Magic is not just shiny lights. Magic is friends. Lee asks Repirdeon to calm his stomps so ears can listen. She asks Leopold to lift one heavy board with his quiet strength. She asks Sebastian to share his snack with a shy classmate who feels sad. They work together. Repirdeon lifts his head and listens. Leopold moves the board like opening a book. Sebastian smiles and the shy child looks up. Under the board, warm and shiny, is the little bell.

The bell rings soft and clear. Everyone laughs. The class shares stories one by one. Lee feels proud. She learned that her magic grows bigger when she shares it with friends. The moon watches and nods.
