Use this checklist for every guest-room turnover. Housekeeping staff complete the cleaning actions, room attendants or supervisors verify the result, and the final sign-off records who released the room for sale.

Before You Start

Set up the room and the work record before cleaning begins. Use one checklist per room, whether it is printed on a clipboard or completed in a housekeeping app.

• Confirm the room number and checkout status.
• Check the room assignment and priority time.
• Collect approved cleaning chemicals and labels.
• Prepare fresh bed linen and bath linen.
• Stock gloves, cloths, bags, and toilet supplies.
• Carry a vacuum, mop, dustpan, and approved disinfectant.
• Check that the vacuum and cart work properly.
• Review maintenance notes from the previous stay.
• Keep the room checklist dry and readable.
• Follow the hotel’s chemical dilution instructions.
• Open curtains and switch on room lights.
• Record lost property according to hotel policy.

Use separate cloths for the bathroom, bedroom, and high-touch surfaces. A color-coded system helps prevent cross-use; for example, reserve red cloths for toilets and blue cloths for glass or mirrors. Never mix chemicals, especially bleach and acidic toilet cleaner.

Use the same order on every shift. Consistent sequencing reduces missed tasks when rooms turn over quickly or when staff move between room types.

Checklist Items

Secure and assess the room

☐ Knock and announce housekeeping before entering.

Remove used items and waste

☐ Check linen for stains, damage, and foreign objects.

☐ Empty bedroom, bathroom, and desk waste bins.

☐ Replace every waste-bin liner.

☐ Remove food containers and used room-service items.

☐ Clear cups, glasses, dishes, and trays.

☐ Send service items to the correct collection point.

☐ Remove amenity packaging left by the previous guest.

☐ Check drawers, wardrobes, and luggage racks.

☐ Check behind curtains and under the bed.

Clean the bathroom

☐ Apply approved cleaner to the toilet bowl.

☐ Clean the toilet from handle to base.

☐ Disinfect the flush handle and toilet seat.

☐ Clean the sink, faucet, drain, and backsplash.

☐ Remove hair from the sink and bathroom floor.

☐ Clean the shower walls, floor, door, and fittings.

☐ Remove soap residue from shower surfaces.

☐ Clean the bathtub and drain when provided.

☐ Polish mirrors without leaving streaks.

☐ Wipe the vanity, shelves, and amenity tray.

☐ Disinfect bathroom door handles and light switches.

Reset the bedroom

☐ Strip and inspect the mattress protector.

☐ Check the mattress for stains or damage.

☐ Fit clean sheets tightly over the mattress.

☐ Place pillows in the approved arrangement.

☐ Add the duvet or blanket without exposed stains.

☐ Check the bed skirt, frame, and headboard.

☐ Dust the headboard from top to bottom.

☐ Clean bedside tables and telephone surfaces.
