God Make Me Your Vessel

You can feel it when you try to “do God” instead of offering yourself to Him - like you’re polishing the outside while your heart stays locked up. Today, I want to move past that. Not with pressure, not with performance, but with surrender: a willing heart that says, “God, make me Yours.”

Because offering yourself to God isn’t a one-time dramatic moment. It’s the daily choice to place your life - your time, your temper, your plans, your hands - on His altar. It begins small, and it’s honest. It starts with willingness.

Scripture Focus

Romans 12:1 (ESV)

> “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.”

God’s invitation isn’t to impress Him - it’s to present yourself to Him.

Reflection

When Paul says “present your bodies,” he’s not talking about stage outfits or impressive spiritual vibes. He’s talking about real life - your body and your days. The way you speak when you’re tired. The way you respond when someone cuts you off. The way you show up at work, even when nobody claps. A living sacrifice means you’re still breathing while God works. That’s good news, because it means surrender isn’t pretend; it’s ongoing.

And notice the order: it’s “by the mercies of God.” We don’t offer ourselves to God as a way to earn mercy. We offer ourselves because mercy has already found us. That changes everything. If God’s mercy is the foundation, then your surrender doesn’t have to be perfect to be real. You can come with messy edges and still be invited in.

So what does a willing heart look like on an ordinary Tuesday? It looks like choosing obedience when you’d rather stay comfortable. It looks like praying before you react - like taking thirty seconds to breathe and ask, “Lord, what do You want me to do with this moment?” It looks like telling the truth when a lie would be easier. It looks like saying “yes” to a small act of faithfulness instead of waiting for some big spiritual feeling.

Here’s the key insight I keep coming back to: God doesn’t ask for your performance - He asks for your surrender. Performance tries to look right. Surrender gets real. Performance measures success by what people think. Surrender measures faithfulness by what God is doing. Performance makes you the center. Surrender makes God the center again.

Think about how easy it is to shift into “spiritual performance mode.” Maybe you read your Bible, but you read it like a checklist. Maybe you serve, but you secretly want credit. Maybe you pray, but you’re really bargaining: “If I do enough, will You fix this?” I’ve been there. You can be sincere and still slip into the trap - because the heart is always learning what it believes about God.

But surrender pulls you back. It says, “Lord, You’re not an exam I’m trying to pass. You’re my Father. I’m bringing You my whole life - whether it feels holy or not yet.” And if you’re worried that you’ll do it wrong, that’s exactly why you need willingness. Willingness is not confidence in your own strength. It’s trust that God can work with what you actually bring.

When you offer yourself as a living sacrifice, you’re not trying to become a different person overnight. You’re saying, “Take my life and shape it.” That includes your attention span. It includes your habits. It includes the little compromises you’ve called “not a big deal.” God is patient, and He’s also serious about your heart - because your heart is where worship lives.

And worship, in this verse, isn’t only music and Sundays. It’s how you present your body, day after day. It’s the way you spend your lunch break - scrolling or praying. It’s how you handle your money - generous or tightfisted. It’s how you treat your spouse or coworker when you feel disrespected. These are the places where surrender becomes visible.

So today, let’s start at the beginning: with a heart that’s willing. Not a heart that’s pretending. A heart that’s turning. A heart that says, “God, make me Yours.”

Practice for Today

1. A 2-minute “Present My Life” prayer (timed).

Set a timer for 2 minutes. During that time, don’t ask for a long list. Just present what’s real. Use this simple pattern:

• “Lord, You know my ____.” (fill in: schedule, stress, anger, loneliness, temptation)
• “Here I am with my ____.” (fill in: hands, words, time, choices)
• “Make it Yours for today.”

When the timer ends, stop. Surrender doesn’t need extra words to be true.

2. Journaling prompt: What are you trying to control?

Write for 5 minutes. Ask yourself: Where am I trying to prove myself instead of trusting God? Then answer these two questions:

• What moment today tempted me to “perform” (at work, at home, online, in conversations)?
• What would surrender look like in that exact moment - one concrete choice?
