Student Handbook, Expectations, Policies & Rules (Updated)

Our Commitment

Students are expected to demonstrate professionalism, integrity, respect, accountability, and ethical conduct. Failure to comply with school policies may result in counseling, probation, suspension, or termination.

Attendance

Maintain at least 70% attendance, attend all scheduled classes, and complete all required clock hours. Grant-funded students must also satisfy attendance requirements established by their funding agency or risk dismissal from the program.

Academic Progress

Students must maintain a minimum 80% GPA, complete all theory and practical work, and pass required examinations.

Professional Conduct

Respect for instructors, staff, owners, directors, classmates, clients, and visitors is mandatory. Bullying, harassment, threats, fighting, profanity directed at others, or insubordination may result in immediate dismissal.

Drug-Free Campus

Illegal drugs, alcohol, smoking, vaping, and marijuana use anywhere inside the building, including bathrooms, are prohibited.

Cleanliness

Students must clean their workstation, classroom, student lunch area, bathrooms after use, dispensary, and salon floor according to sanitation standards.

Practical Requirements

All practical assignments follow New Jersey State Board requirements. Every practical assignment must be completed before graduation.

Senior Students

Senior students are expected to build clientele, market themselves professionally, and provide services under instructor supervision.

State Board Examination

Students must pass the written examination with a minimum score of 75%. The final five hours may be held until the written examination requirement is met. Hair Braiding students must pass the school's final examination before graduation paperwork is completed.

Uniform Policy

Junior students (300-hour programs and above) wear the official white school top with black scrub pants. Senior students wear all black scrubs. Hair Braiding students wear black scrubs or may purchase the school uniform for $50. Students not dressed in a clean, pressed professional uniform will be sent home.

Payments

Payments are due according to the enrollment agreement. Monthly payments are due by the 1st and no later than the 5th of each month. Late fees apply after the 5th.

Classroom Expectations

The instructor has authority in the classroom. Students directed to leave due to misconduct must leave immediately. Meetings with the Director will be scheduled the following school day.

Theft & Security

Security cameras operate throughout the facility. Theft of school, staff, student, or client property may result in immediate dismissal and police notification.

Student Kits

Students are responsible for required tools and supplies. Funded students will use school-issued supplies as assigned. Students purchasing kits are responsible for maintaining them and replacing worn items.

Textbooks & Mannequins

Each student receives one textbook (digital or printed) and one mannequin. Additional mannequins are the student's responsibility once issued mannequins have been used.

School Schedule & Digital Clock System

Students must clock in at the beginning of class, clock out for every break, clock back in after each break, and clock out at the end of the day using the school's digital attendance system. The electronic system records the exact time. Students are responsible for accurate punches. Educators cannot edit attendance records; only the Director or authorized administrator may approve corrections when appropriate.

10-Minute Grace Period

A 10-minute grace period applies only to the beginning of the scheduled school day. Students scheduled for 5:00 PM who clock in between 5:00 PM and 5:10 PM receive credit beginning at 5:00 PM. After 5:10 PM, students receive credit only from their actual clock-in time. Students who fail to clock in or clock out will not receive credit for unrecorded time. Late return from breaks results in automatic deduction of missed time.

Orientation Period

New students are given a one-week adjustment period to learn the digital clock procedures. After the first week, all attendance and time-clock rules are strictly enforced.

State Board Compliance

Divine Barber and Beauty Institute follows the requirements of the New Jersey State Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling and the Division of Consumer Affairs. Attendance and clock hours must comply with applicable New Jersey regulations. Unearned hours cannot be awarded.

Student Acknowledgment

Every student must sign an acknowledgment confirming receipt of the handbook and agreement to comply with all school policies, including attendance, scheduling, uniforms, conduct, payments, and the digital clock-in system.
