Chapter 1

Set the context: why add another chapter and keep writing up to five chapters

Like every morning the Evil Stepmother recited those same words again in front of her magical mirror. “ Mirror, Mirror on the wall who’s the fairest of them all.” Like always she was expecting her name but the mirror that once told her that she was the fairest in the kingdom now whispered a different name. “ Snow White” replied the Magical Mirror. The Evil Stepmothers fingers tightened around the edge of the mirror until her knuckles turned white.

Burning with hatred the Evil Stepmother demanded for the Huntsman's presence. He arrived gasping for air as the Evil Stepmother ferociously said “ Go and lure Snow White deep into the dark void of the phantomless forest and kill her.” The gHuntsman obeyed the Evil Stepmother and took Snow white deep into the murky, dismal forest.

20 minutes later when they arrived into the forest the Huntsman told Snow white to go a little further into the forest and check if there was any thick wood stick to use to make fire in. So without thinking mush about it Snow White wandered deeper into the forest. The huntsman then tiptoed towards Snow White but the dry leaves crunched under his heavy, dark leather boots, alerting Snow White that someone was approaching from behind. She then turned sharply staring at the huntsman axe in his hand sharp as lightning looking right at her. She then closed her eyes and exempted her fate as the exhaled her last final breath or as she thought so.

“Argh” The Huntsman raised his axe, but his grip loosened. He looked at Snow White’s frightened face and remembered the Stepmother’s cruel command. He couldn’t do it he just couldn’t.

However to her surprise when she open her eyes she saw the Axe sharp as lightning bestowed upon her feet. Snow Whites eyes darted everywhere searching for the Huntsman but she couldn’t spot him anywhere but then suddenly the whole forset when quiet. So Snow white wandered deeper into the dismal murky forest without a clue of where she was going and every step Snow White took seemed to echo into the forest. She the stumbled upon a small cottage. Snow White was amazed and surprised to see a house in the middle of the forest where not even trees could live.

Curiosity struck Snow White because if there is a house in the middle of the black forest then maybe there was hope for more. So Snow approached closer to the cottage and brought up the courage to ask if if anyone was home so she knocked on the door murmured “ Hello… is anyone home?” No reply so she tried again “ Hello is anyone there” Still no reply so she tried knocking on the door one last time but still no reply. So curiosity got the best of her as she entered the small cottage.

She entered the cottage and noticed the 7 small dinning chairs. Did a group of children live here? Taking a closer look she saw 7 tiny pairs of socks, pants and shirts hanging on the hook by the door. She only saw miniature versions of everything then a thought struck her... were they orphans because she hadn’t seen a normal sized plate let alone clothes anywhere around the whole house, if they were then they were just like Snow White. She then ventured in the backyard she was delighted to see a little vegetable garden out back. Her stomach rumbled at the sight of them and she realised that she hadn’t since her breakfast at the castle which now felt like days ago.

Her stomach rumbled loudly. “ Well” she whispered to herself, if someone actually owns this garden, I hope that they don’t mid sharing. Gathering the vegetables, she headed back to the kitchen and started making a soup which she had learnt to make from her mother as a girl. As it began to boil, an appealing aroma filled the room. She left it to simmer but then Snow White felt if as if she could almost hear her mother’s gentle voice beside her, reminding her to stir the soup slowly. Then Snow White set the table and head outside for some fresh air.

Snow White then heard insistent chatter coming from deep within the forest. Then out of nowhere a sharp chill ran down her spine as she saw 7 pairs of eyes staring right at her from the distant trees, and what was weirder was that she heard soft muttering coming from deep within the woods to. Snow then summoned the courage and yelled out into the forest “ Um hello is anyone there and if there is then my name is Snow White and I mean no harm.”

Then emerging from the shadows appeared 7 dwarfs returning from their daily work. “ Snow White did you say your name was?” Said one dwarf as a slight smirk appeared onto his face.

Snow White nodded cautiously “ Yes... why?”

The seven dwarfs exchanged a glance. Snow White noticed it, but thought nothing of it. No one answered not even Snow White said anything. Instead the smallest dwarf came forward and examined Snow White Head to toe. As time passed the awkwardness increased and the probability of anyone talking was slowly decreasing. Then the smallest dwarf that had been examining Snow White finally said something but it was not what anyone was expecting. “ We were waiting for you what took you so long?” asked the dwarf.

“ W... What do you mean you were waiting for me, were you expecting me or something because that is kind of creepy.” Replied Snow White puzzled at the time.

All of the Dwarves looked at each other not knowing what to say and the oldest of them all Grumpy gave the smallest dwarf called dopey the most scariest stare that anyone could do ever. Grumpy’s eyes narrowed as her glared at Dopey. “ Dopey! What do you mean by that?” he growled as he tried to signal him to be quiet.

Dopey looked down at his feet nervously. “ I - I mean we knew that she was coming.”

Snow white looked at the 7 dwarfs, completely confused. “ Who told you I was coming.” The dwarves remained silent. “ WHO?” Snow white asked again, becoming more impatient.

Finally Grumpy sighed and said. “ The Evil Stepmother.”

Snow Whites heart suddenly dropped. She had never expected her Stepmother to follow her up till her. So she suddenly bent down and hid herself under the dinning table not knowing what to do next even after knowing that her Evil Stepmother is on her tail. Then Grumpy finally said something that will change Snow Whites life in the most unbelievable way.

He then said “ If you head to the west on the other side of the murky forest in the thick valleys of snow resides the Snow Queen majestic Castle and if you go there there is no possible way that anyone could do anything to you without the Snow Queens permission.”

So trusting the Dwarves she set off deep into the forest still doubting her decisions kept on walking deeper and deeper and deeper into the forest. Then she looked up and saw snow falling from the sky she had finally made it she had finally reached the Snow Queens Kingdom. She had finally made it she couldn't believe her eyes she was finally safe so she headed towards the Snow Queen's castle.

Waiting at the door she saw the snow queen she was delighted to finally meet the person that would save her life at first Snow felt a little hesitant and suspicious towards the Snow Queen but with no other choice of survival she kept moving closer towards the Snow Queen. Little did Snow White know that soon this desperation will turn into the reason of her death.

10 days ago the Evil Stepmother had convinced the Snow Queen to help her by showing her a pile of gold and then the Evil Stepmother told her that she had lived in a frozen castle her entire life, watching her people struggle through endless winters. One kingdom wasn’t enough anymore.

The Snow Queen wanted anything but still the Snow Queen still whispered “ I wont - I can’t do it.”

“ Then I’ll find someone else to rule your kingdom” the Evil Stepmother protested.

The Snow Queen felt helpless so in the end she had to say yes to the proposal.

The Snow Queen invited Snow White inside her luxurious snow castle showing her around the whole Palace then Snow Whites stomach rumbled as she realized that she didn't eat the soup that she had prepared for herself at the dwarfs Cottage and somehow the snow queen notice this and called her for dinner she told her to stuff up because the Snow Queen also told Snow white that it was a big day for her tomorrow

Snow White stuffed her mouth with food. She kept eating until her stomach ached. Eventually, she pushed the plate away, unable to take another bite. So the Snow Queen showed her to her room she had never been an luxurious room like this well not until she could remember because when her mother died her dad married her evil step mother and ever since she entered the Palace now why couldn't never peacefully she had become a maid when her real modesty have real power was a princess the princess of the Kingdom and the future Queen too.

Snow White without doubting anything went to bed on the other hand The Snow Queen was practicing her magic practicing turning things into ice and preparing her ice shards for the next day. “ I see you are obeying my will” said the Evil Stepmother emerging from the darkness.

The Snow Queen asked on last time “ Is this really necessary does she really have to die.”

“ Of course she does only then will we all get what we want.” Cackled the Evil Stepmother

As dawn fell Snow White woke up from her sleep and it was the best one she had gotten in a very long time. She walked down the never ending stairs and got reminded of the 7 dwarves because of them She was in this amazing situation this was the best time of her life. Once she reached down stairs she saw the Snow Queen waiting for her. “ Come on Snow White I have something to show you.”

Without hesitation Snow White followed. The Snow Queen took her to the room where she and the Evil Stepmother had met the other night. “ Why did you bring me her” pondered Snow White. No response instead she got a steady stare from the Snow Queen so Snow didn’t bother ask again

Not knowing that lurking in the shadows right behind her was the reason she was stuck in this mess in the first place. Then the Snow Queen started reciting some words they sounded a lot like spells. She out of nowhere ice shard came flying and pinned Snow White to the wall.

The Snow Queen then summoned mystical, magical powers and started taking all of yer youth and beauty away from her like she was sucking her life. Snow White found the strength to speak mumbled the words that were able to come out her mouth. “ W - Why are y - you doing this to m - me, what have I - I d - d - done to you?” she says as her hands tremble and her back scratches against the icy wall.

A freezing sensation crawled from Snow White’s fingertips to her arms then slowly towards her whole body.

“ No... “ Snow White Whisphered

Frost Spread across her arms. Hear breath coming out as fog. She looked desperately towards the Snow Queen “ Please... “

Then out from the prowling shadows appeared the Snow Whites Evil Stepmother. The Snow Queen the gave all of Snow’s youth and beauty to the Evil Stepmother and let Snow White go. But after all of the life getting drained right in front of her eyes she couldn’t move anymore and started to turn into ice. The last thing Snow White saw was her Evil Stepmothers wicked smile, then she blacked out. The Evil Stepmother was delighted to see this vision and fulfilled her promise and in return for all of Snow Whites beauty and youth she will give the Snow Queen unlimited riches and a whole nother kingdom.

The Snow queen also kept her word and freed the 7 dwarfs from all of the rent that she expected from them but deep down she knew that she had done the wrong thing but there was no turning back now. The 7 dwarves were their fourth set free from the Snow Queens cruel courtesy. But Snow White was betrayed by seven, stolen by winter, her beauty, her youth, her everything she had lost it all.

Set the context: why add another chapter and keep writing up to five chapters

You’ve already got a continuous story fragment that ends with Snow White betrayed, frozen, and the kingdom transformed. Adding another chapter now matters because it converts that dramatic cliff into usable structure: a clear next scene, specific stakes, and a plan for extending the tale through up to five chapters. That solves the common problem of a stalled manuscript - where a single intense moment exists but no practical roadmap carries the momentum forward. After reading this chapter you’ll know exactly how to create the next chapter in a way that advances plot, preserves consistent tone, and sets up subsequent chapters so you can produce up to five connected installments without losing direction.

You’ll learn a repeatable mini-process for drafting each following chapter: identify the immediate consequence of the previous scene, choose a single scene objective, add two to three supporting beats, and end on a purposeful hook that leads to the next chapter. That approach delivers tangible outcomes: a complete next chapter draft (about 300-500 words), plus a short plan for chapters three through five so you can keep writing with confidence. You’ve got this - here’s how to make it easier.

Teach the core technique: structuring the next chapter and planning up to five

The core technique breaks into four concrete steps that you can follow every time you add a chapter. Use these steps to transform a dramatic moment into a manageable scene and to map the next few chapters.

• Pinpoint the immediate consequence.

• Explain: Decide what changed right after the ending image. For example, Snow White lies frozen; the dwarfs will react; the Evil Stepmother leaves. Naming the consequence gives you a clear opening action.

• Pick one scene objective.

• Explain: Choose what this chapter must achieve for the story to move forward. Example objectives: “rescue attempt,” “revelation of a new power,” or “setup of antagonist’s next move.” Keep the objective single and measurable so the chapter feels focused.

• Break the chapter into 2-3 beats.

• Explain: A beat is a short arc within the chapter (reaction, attempt, twist). Example beats: dwarfs discover Snow’s condition; a dwarf seeks help at the Snow Queen’s castle; a clue reveals the Stepmother’s plan. Each beat needs one concrete action and one consequence.

• End on a precise hook that points to the next chapter.

• Explain: Avoid vague cliffhangers. Use a specific reveal (a missing shard, a secret name, a map) that makes the reader want the next chapter to answer one clear question.

Concrete example: apply steps to write Chapter 2. Consequence = Snow White frozen. Objective = dwarfs attempt to thaw her. Beats = (1) discovery and mourning; (2) Dopey volunteers to fetch the Snow Queen’s forbidden artifact; (3) Grumpy finds a carved ring with inscription. Hook = Dopey returns but carries the wrong artifact. That hook gives a direct lead into Chapter 3.

Walk through a realistic scenario applying this knowledge

Follow these numbered steps to produce Chapter 2 quickly and cleanly. Use specific details and expected outcomes so you can finish a 300-500 word scene without guesswork.

• Open on the immediate image you named: “Grumpy slides the shard from Snow White’s chest; the hall smells of iron and cold.” Expected outcome: a vivid start that reorients the reader to the consequences.

• Show one clear reaction beat in 2-3 short paragraphs: the dwarfs’ practical attempts (blankets, rubbing, hot broth). Include a specific item: “Dopey runs to fetch the iron kettle from the kitchen - 2 paces to the left of the hearth.” Expected outcome: you build sympathy and show resourcefulness.

• Introduce a quest beat: one dwarf volunteers to retrieve the Snow Queen’s “Thawing Ring” from her private chest. Specify travel time: “a half-hour trek through the east gate path.” Expected outcome: you set external stakes and a deadline.

• End with a precise twist: Dopey returns panting but holding a small mirror with frost that shows Snow White’s reflection smiling back. Expected outcome: the reader now wants Chapter 3 to explain the mirror’s power.

Quick checklist:

• Pinpoint consequence and write a one-sentence opening image.

• Choose one objective and keep it visible throughout the chapter.

• Divide the chapter into 2-3 beats; give each a concrete action and a consequence.

• End with a specific, named hook (item, word, or reveal).

• Target 300-500 words per chapter for steady progress.

Common mistakes and edge cases

Starting with a summary dump

Starting by summarizing past events kills immediacy. Readers want to feel the scene, not read a report.

Do this: Open with the physical detail that changed - a shard, a breath, a dropped cloak - then fill necessary context in small pieces.

Not this:

Begin with ten sentences of backstory before any action appears.

Trying to accomplish too many objectives in one chapter

Packing rescue, betrayal, magic explanation, and a new romance into one chapter dilutes tension and bloats word count.

Do this: Limit the chapter to one main objective and one supporting beat. Use simple actions: search, fetch, reveal. You'll keep focus and reach completion faster.

Not this:

Attempt to resolve the entire conflict or answer all mysteries at once.

Relying on vague hooks

A hook that reads “something shocking happens” leaves you guessing how to continue.

Do this: Choose a named object or fact as the hook (e.g., “Thawing Ring,” “mirror that shows a future,” “the Snow Queen’s - ring”); make it specific and actionable so the next chapter opens with a clear question to answer.

Not this:

End on an ambiguous “something will change” without a tangible clue.

End of chapter one.
