Day 1: Night Flyers All About Owls
BEFORE STUDENTS ARRIVE
Make one copy per student of pages 5–10. Write your name on the board. Answer key: page 42. Students need only a pencil and crayons.

Read the prompt aloud. Have students share quick opinions with a partner (2 minutes). Model filling in the first line of the planner on the board. Students complete the planner, then write their paragraph on the lines.

Students read each statement and circle Fact or Fiction, using the passage to check. Then they design their own owl in the drawing box. Early finishers can share their owls with a partner.

Hand out Exit Tickets (page 40). Students tidy desks and stack finished work on the teacher’s desk. Hand out Super Student awards to 2–3 students who showed great effort. Leave a note for the teacher.
