Mina arrived just as the screen flickered awake.

A soft blue glow spread across her bedroom wall. It slipped over her pillow, warmed the wooden shelf, and lit the silver moon painted above her bed. Mina stopped with one sock half on and one slipper in her hand.

“There you are,” she whispered.

Behind the screen, the Moonlight Meme Library waited inside her kid-sized bedtime room. Its little shelves curved like clouds. Tiny books rested on them, each one marked with a picture: a smiling star, a green leaf, a round clock, and a cup of warm milk. A silver rug covered the floor, soft beneath Mina’s toes.

She hurried across it.

The library was just what she had hoped for. It held short bedtime memes that could teach her things while making her smile. Some showed counting tricks. Some showed animal facts. Others had gentle songs about words, weather, and the night sky.

Mina reached for the glowing screen.

Her fingers bounced against the glass. The screen blinked once, then went dark.

Mina blinked back. “Oh.”

She tapped again, faster this time.

The screen gave a tiny shiver. A silver message appeared:

Mina pulled her hands close to her chest. “I am using my hands,” she said. “I need the memes to start.”

The message faded. The screen stayed dark.

Mina looked around the cozy room. The little shelves were still. The moon lamp still hummed softly. A warm cinnamon smell drifted from the mug on her bedside table. Everything seemed ready for story time except the screen.

She pressed one finger to it.

The screen flashed.

“Quiet hands,” Mina said, trying to sound patient. She placed both palms flat on the glass.

Thump.

The screen turned pale pink and showed the same words.

Mina lifted her palms. “But they are not loud.”

She knew that was not quite true. Her fingers had been tapping. Her palms had pressed hard. Even now, her hands were wiggling because she wanted the first meme to play right away.

The screen made a small chiming sound, like a spoon touching a cup.

A new picture appeared: two hands resting on a moon-shaped pillow. Under it were three tiny stars.

Mina frowned. “Is that a clue?”

The library did not answer. It only glowed.

She tried another idea. Mina folded her hands together, just as she did before sleep. She held them tightly and waited.

For three seconds, nothing happened.

Then her thumb rubbed against her finger.

Scritch.

The screen flickered and showed:

ALMOST.

Mina’s shoulders drooped. “Almost is not playing.”

She flopped onto the silver rug. It made a quiet puff beneath her. Her cheeks felt warm. She had found the library, and the screen was right there, but she could not make it begin.

“What does quiet hands mean?” she asked.

A small book slid from the shelf. It landed on the rug with a soft plop. Its cover showed a sleeping cloud.

Mina picked it up. The pages opened by themselves. On the first page, a cartoon hand waved. On the second, the hand knocked on a door. On the third, it rested beside a tiny cup.

Mina turned the page.

The hand was still.

The screen brightened and showed two words:

READY HANDS.

Mina stared at the pictures. “Quiet hands are still hands?”

The screen gave one gentle chime.

She sat up. “Not tapping. Not squeezing. Not rubbing.”

The moon lamp cast a pale circle over the rug. Mina could hear the low hum of the library and the soft swish of curtains by the window. She placed her hands on her knees.

They felt strange there. Her fingers wanted to move. Her wrists wanted to reach for the screen. Mina took a small breath through her nose. The air smelled like cinnamon and clean blankets.

“Hands can wait,” she whispered.

She kept them still.

One star appeared on the screen.

Mina smiled.

Then her left hand jumped up to point at it.

The star vanished.

“Oh, come on!” Mina cried. She pulled her hand back. “I was only pointing.”

The library gave a gentle, sorry-sounding hum. The little cloud book closed itself.

Mina’s eyes prickled with frustration, but the room stayed warm and calm. Nothing was broken. The screen had not disappeared. It was simply waiting for her to learn.

She looked at her fingers. They were not bad hands. They were excited hands.

“I rushed,” she said. “You wanted me to be calm first.”

She moved closer to the moon-shaped pillow shown in the picture. It sat beneath the screen, small enough for both her hands. Mina placed her hands on it, fingers spread like quiet little stars.

She breathed in.

The pillow felt smooth and cool. She breathed out.

A soft blue line appeared on the screen.

She breathed in again.

The line grew longer.

Mina listened to the room. The lamp hummed. The curtain brushed the wall. Somewhere inside the library, a tiny clock ticked.

Tick.

Mina kept her hands still.

The screen glowed brighter.

A silver door appeared in the middle of it. The door had a round handle shaped like a moon.
