Miyuki Hatake: Demon Snow Tigers

Snow cracked beneath Miyuki’s sandals as she dropped behind the half-buried shrine.

The mountain pass stretched white and silent around her, its stone torii buried up to the crossbeam. Frost clung to the broken shrine roof, turning every tile silver. Somewhere above, a raven gave one sharp cry and vanished into the storm.

“Stay low,” Kakashi murmured.

Miyuki crouched beside him, snow-white hair tucked beneath her hood. Her icy aqua-green eyes tracked the narrow pass ahead. Team Seven waited among the rocks behind them, hidden beneath layers of white cloth and chakra-suppressed gear. Naruto shifted impatiently. Sakura pressed two fingers to the ground, sensing the tremors beneath the ice. Sasuke stood motionless, his gaze fixed on the ridge.

Miyuki wanted only one thing: to reach the hidden trail before nightfall.

The trail belonged to the Demon Snow Tigers. It wound through the mountain beneath old ice shelves and led toward a sheltered valley known only to their allies. If she could find it without exposing what she and Kakashi truly were, she could prove that the route remained safe.

And perhaps she could learn why hunters had begun searching this far north.

Kakashi lifted two fingers.

A figure stepped from behind the shrine’s collapsed wall. Then another. Both wore pale armor beneath dark traveling cloaks, their faces covered by masks painted with red slashes. Short blades hung at their hips, and strips of paper marked with sealing ink fluttered from their belts.

Demon hunters.

Miyuki’s fingers tightened around the kunai in her sleeve.

Naruto leaned toward Sakura. “Those the guys we’re avoiding?”

“Quiet,” Sakura whispered.

Kakashi’s visible eye narrowed. “We’re changing formation.”

Miyuki glanced toward the pass. “The trail is beyond them.”

“I know.”

“If we go around the eastern ridge, we’ll lose daylight.”

“And if we go through the patrol, we lose more than daylight.”

His voice was calm, but Miyuki heard the warning beneath it. Kakashi had recognized the markings. These hunters were not wandering scouts. They had come prepared for something specific.

A gust tore across the pass, carrying a faint metallic chime. Miyuki looked up.

Thin wires crossed the entrance between the rocks, nearly invisible beneath the frost.

“Traps,” she breathed.

One of the hunters turned toward the shrine.

Miyuki’s pulse jumped. She could hear the scrape of his boot, the whisper of cloth, the tiny vibration traveling through the wires. Her body knew what to do before her thoughts caught up. She reached for the sound inside her chest - the note that could become a blade, a wall, a warning.

But Naruto’s shoulder brushed a loose stone.

It clicked against the ice.

The hunter’s head snapped around.

“Movement!” he shouted.

Kakashi moved first. A kunai flashed through the air and severed the nearest wire. The trap sprang anyway, exploding in a burst of blue sparks that tore across the pass.

“Run!” Kakashi ordered.

Team Seven broke from cover.

Miyuki sprinted after him, boots skidding over hard-packed snow. Naruto created a dozen shadow clones, filling the pass with orange and black. Sakura struck the ground, sending a crack through the ice and forcing two hunters backward. Sasuke’s fireball lit the white cliffs in a sudden orange glare.

The hunters did not retreat.

They scattered with practiced precision, driving the team toward the narrow ice paths on the western side.

“They’re herding us!” Sakura called.

Miyuki saw the route at once. The western paths twisted between walls of blue ice, too narrow for a full battle and too steep for a safe descent. The hunters had chosen the ground before the team ever arrived.

Kakashi landed beside her. “Miyuki, take the left passage.”

She looked at him. “That leads away from the shrine.”

“It leads away from the patrol. Move!”

A hunter burst through the smoke behind them, blade raised. Miyuki spun and caught the strike with her kunai. The impact numbed her arm. The hunter’s mask was close enough for her to see the black lines painted beneath his eyes.

“Snow-white hair,” he said.

Miyuki shoved him back with a burst of chakra. “Get out of my way.”

He slid across the ice, but his gaze remained fixed on her.

“The tiger has a daughter.”

The words struck harder than the blade.

For one breath, the pass disappeared. Miyuki saw her mother’s empty cloak beneath falling snow, the dark stains on the white ground, the hunters walking away without looking back.

Then the hunter threw a sealing tag.

Miyuki caught it before it reached her face. The paper burned cold against her glove.

She sang.

The note came out clear and bright, trembling only at its edges. Sound rippled through the passage. The ice walls shuddered as the jutsu took shape, turning her voice into a sharp wave that struck the hunter’s chest and hurled him into a snowbank.

The song continued for half a breath.

Then Miyuki stopped.

Naruto stared at her from the mouth of the passage....
