Goku Meets Umineko’s Fate

The iron gates of Rokkenjima slammed shut behind Goku with a sound like a giant bell struck beneath the earth.

He turned as the last strip of sea vanished between the bars. Beyond them, waves broke against black rocks far below, white spray flashing beneath a moonless sky. The mansion stood ahead, its windows glowing gold through the rain, every pane too bright and too still.

Goku tightened his fists.

“Hey!” he called toward the entrance. “I don’t know who brought me here, but I’m not playing along!”

The mansion answered with silence.

Then the front doors opened.

No servant waited beyond them. No footsteps crossed the polished foyer. Only a long red carpet stretched inward beneath chandeliers that burned without flame. Portraits watched from the walls, their painted eyes turned toward him.

Goku stepped through.

The doors shut behind him.

A lock clicked.

He glanced over his shoulder. “That’s rude.”

A sharp laugh came from the upper balcony.

“You entered without permission,” said a woman’s voice. “Rudeness is hardly the greatest crime committed on this island.”

Goku looked up.

A golden-haired woman leaned against the railing, one hand resting beneath her chin. Her smile held no warmth, but her eyes shone with amused interest.

“Who are you?” Goku asked.

“Beatrice.”

The name moved through the foyer like a draft. The candle flames bent toward her, though no wind touched Goku’s clothes.

He felt power in the room. Not the clean, direct force of a fighter. This was something stranger - pressure hidden inside words, rules concealed beneath appearances. His skin prickled as if the mansion itself had noticed him.

Beatrice descended the staircase without touching the steps. Her black dress drifted around her boots, and golden butterflies fluttered in her wake before vanishing against the walls.

“You are not written in the tale,” she said. “That makes you either a piece, a player, or a very troublesome mistake.”

“I’m Goku. I’m looking for whoever’s running this game.”

“Then you have come to the right place.”

A chair scraped across the floor.

Goku spun.

At the far end of the foyer, a boy with dark hair sat at a long table that had not been there a moment earlier. Battler rested one hand against his cheek, his expression caught between suspicion and disbelief.

“Don’t let her dress it up,” Battler said. “If this is another closed-room trick, I want to know the rules before he starts smashing the furniture.”

Goku pointed at him. “You know who brought me here?”

“I know this island doesn’t do accidents.”

“Then tell me how to leave.”

Battler’s gaze flicked toward Beatrice. “That depends on whether you’re a player.”

“I don’t care what you call me. I’m going to the room where this game is being controlled, and I’m stopping it.”

The golden butterflies returned, circling Goku’s shoulders. Their wings made no sound, yet each pass tugged at his thoughts. For an instant he saw a dining room drowned in blood. Then a forest path. Then a woman kneeling beside a golden rose.

The images vanished when Goku shouted and released his energy.

The foyer exploded with wind.

Butterflies scattered like sparks. Curtains snapped against the windows. The chandeliers swung hard enough to strike one another, filling the mansion with ringing crystal. Battler threw up an arm while Beatrice’s dress whipped around her legs.

Goku launched himself toward the balcony.

Beatrice raised one finger.

The staircase twisted.

The steps stretched upward, then folded sideways into a corridor lined with identical doors. Goku landed on the nearest one and kicked through it. The wood burst apart, revealing another foyer.

He frowned.

“Now that’s cheating.”

“Cheating?” Beatrice’s voice came from every direction. “This is a game. The board belongs to the witch.”

Goku flew through the second room. He punched through a wall, crossed a narrow hall, and found himself facing the same table. Battler still sat there, though the dust from the broken door had not settled around him.

Battler stood. “You can’t punch your way out of a story.”

“Want to bet?”

Goku drove his fist into the floor.

The tiles shattered in a circle. The impact tore open the carpet and sent a violent tremor through the mansion. Portraits crashed from the walls. Somewhere overhead, glass broke.

For one breath, the strange geometry faltered.

Goku sensed the real path beneath the false ones. He sprang forward, racing through the foyer before the walls could rearrange. A pair of doors appeared ahead. One bore a golden eagle. The other was plain white.

He chose the white door.

It opened into a dining hall.

A long table filled the room, set with untouched plates and silverware. At its head sat a small girl in a red dress, her golden hair tied with ribbons. She held a blue umbrella despite the dry room.

Maria smiled at him.

“Goku,” she said. “You’re the new piece. Uu-!”

“I’m not anybody’s piece.”

“Everyone is a piece if the witch says so.”
